The Weirdest And Most Unusual Bets You Can Make
While betting on sports games, horse racing, tournaments and the like are commonplace; there are other events/eventualities of which you can predict the outcomes. It is not unusual to see odds offered for naming a British Royal baby or the result of a US presidential election. If you look online now, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to betting on the outcome of Hillary Clinton becoming the next US President or the re-election of Donald Trump.
These bets are usually well publicised and not so much what you would term as unusual; however, it is possible to bet on pretty much anything on request. Just ask the bookmaker for the most favourable odds on the outcome of a particular event. But what might you bet on and what are those things that stand out as the most unusual bets ever placed?
The End of The World
Yes, this one is not going away despite regularly predicted apocalypse dates having already passed. If you fancy your chances of success and a favourable outcome, you can predict when the world would end. In 2012, Irish Bookmaker Paddy Power was offering odds of 5,000/1 for the end of the world as the 21.12.2012. Ironic really that if the world does end, bookmakers, and people placing bets, will not be around to see it through. But how is the world going to end? Well, here are some suggestions and the odds that you can get:
Sentient Plants Overtaking The Earth
Yes, plants will evolve, become mobile and carnivorous and spell the demise of the human race. It all smacks of Day of the Triffids really, but maybe stranger things have happened. Equally, you can get the same odds on an asteroid hitting earth in the year 2040 but not ending it.
A natural disaster is far more likely than Sentient Plants, but with odds of 1/45, it does make you wonder. Earthquakes, droughts, another Ice Age or Lava spilling out everywhere and Superstorms are all offered as potential world-ending threats to civilisation.
The Sun Consuming Everything
Again, this is more likely than robots gaining control of the world or plants eating us all but the sun growing big enough to envelop the world, would undoubtedly spell the end of the world. With odds of 1/1, it is an alarming prospect.
We recommend you save your money though, there is only one outcome if the world ends!
Other Unusual Bets
Let’s lighten the mood a little as all this talk of the end of the world is getting a bit morbid. We take a look at some of the other things that people choose to bet on and those that will pay out because they don’t spell the apocalypse.
Betting on Kim Jong-Un
There are several bets you can place on the President of Korea. These include when his power ends. You can get higher odds on 2031 or any time after this. You can also bet on how he will cease to be in control and, amusingly, if he will challenge the President of the USA to a round of golf (not so outlandish as they do both enjoy a game).
That old chestnut! Yes really, you can bet on scientists proving that intelligent life does exist outside of earth. While the rumours and speculation have circulated for many years, the favourite date is after the year 2020.
And Back to Kim Jong-Un
Did you know that you can get odds of 66/1 on him buying an English Premier League Football team? But which side would he choose? You can also get odds of 10/1 on North Korea placing a bid to host the Olympic Games although we aren’t sure of the odds on them being successful.
If you dig deep, you will find many bets for all sorts of weird and wonderful predictions. If there is something that you are particularly keen on having a punt on, you can always contact the bookmakers yourself and see if they will give you odds for your request.
